Late filmmaker Yash Chopra’s brass statue was unveiled on Monday at the UTV STARS Walk.
Actress Rani Mukerji, who was present at the event, got teary and thanked UTV Stars for the honor.
“I would like to thank UTV for this. It's a great moment for all the people who loved Yash uncle and the people who are associated with the family. We will all miss him," said teary-eyed Rani Mukerji to the reporters.
The brass statue of legendary filmmaker was unveiled by his wife Pamela Chopra as part of UTV Stars' property Walk of the Stars at the Bandra Bandstand Promenade. The statue will be installed on February 15.
“I want to thank UTV for this initiative because people forget... We all tend to do so. But with this statue, we will not forget him. I really like the statute, especially with this favorite cap and his camera,” said an emotional Pamela Chopra.
The statue shows Yash Chopra with his trademark cap and camera and it has been unveiled by the late filmmaker's wife Pamela Chopra and younger son Uday Chopra.
Legendary filmmaker passed away on October 21 last year due to dengue. He was 80.
Yash Chopra is known for his larger than life movies. The filmmaker, who made few of Bollywood’s best romance movies, earned the title of ‘King of Romance’. His movies ‘Silsila’, ‘Chandni’, ‘Lamhe’, ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ and ‘Veer Zaara’ are considered as few of Bollywood’s epic romances.
“Yashji was a dreamer. He was a man who didn`t just make romantic movies or romanced cinema, he romanced life, with love as the most important ingredient,” said Pamela Chopra.
Yash Chopra directed 22 films in his lifetime, including iconic titles like ‘Deewar’, ‘Kabhi Kabhie’, ‘Trishul’ and ‘Darr’.
An emotional Uday said his father will be "remembered for his work".
“I have seen him live, so it's a different feeling. And as rightly said, now his admirers can touch him and feel him,” added Uday Chopra.
Yash Chopra’s family including his wife Pamela and younger son Uday Chopra were present at the event. Other celebrities like Rani Mukerji, Poonam Dhillon, Prem Chopra, Kabir Khan, Parineeti Chopra and Vaibhavi Merchant were present at the event.
The statue of Yash Chopra will now join the likes of Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Dev Anand whose memorable avatars in form of a brass statue have already been installed for the fans.
Yash Chopra’s last movie ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, released last year and went on to become a blockbuster hit.
