Director Anurag Basu’s recent movie ‘Barfi!’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz, was chosen as India’s official entry for 85th Academy Awards, to be held in February next year.
But ‘Barfi!’ has failed to qualify for the best foreign language film category. The shortlisted nine movies include – ‘Amour’ (Austria), ‘War Witch’, (Canada), ‘No’ (Chile), A Royal Affair (Denmark), ‘The Intouchables’ (France), ‘The Deep’ (Iceland), ‘Kon-Tiki’ (Norway), ‘Beyond the Hills’ (Romania) and ‘Sister’ (Switzerland).
The final list will be announced on Jan 10.
Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi!’ got rave reviews from the critics and the movie also became a commercial hit. Ranbir Kapoor’s acting as deaf and dumb boy and Priyanka Chopra’s acting as an autistic girl was appreciated by one and all. The movie also marked debut of South actress Ileana, whose performance was appreciated by many.
Even though the movie was a critical and commercial hit, the movie wasn’t free of controversies. Anurag Basu was accused of plagiarism after scenes from Barfi were found copied or influenced by several famous films.
