Recently it was confirmed that actress Priyanka Chopra would be essaying the role of Olympic bronze medalist Mary Kom in the biopic based on Mary Kom’s life.

The boxing champion Mary Kom is happy that the makers have chosen Priyanka Chopra from the film.

“Any actress is good enough to play my role. They are all talented. I am happy that Priyanka is doing my role,” said Mary Kom at an event.

When asked if she will be making her silver screen debut anytime soon, Mary Kom said, “It is hard for me. I am not good at acting. I get nervous while facing the camera.”

The boxer added that she would love to show the film's cast and crew on how they lead their lives in Manipur.

Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom became a National hero after winning bronze medal in the recently held Olympics in London. She comes from Kom tribal community of north eastern state Manipur. Initially Mary had to undergo few hurdles as boxing was not considered a suitable sport for a woman.

So she hid her passion for boxing and it was only after her victory in the Manipur state women's boxing championship in 2000, her career became public and she started competing at international level at the age of 18.

She is the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships. At the recent London Olympics, the 29 year old was the only Indian woman boxer to have qualified for the flyweight (51kg) category where she won a bronze.

Her life story inspired Omung Kumar, the art director of 'Black' and 'Saawariya', to make a movie on her life. He approached filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali with the idea. Sanjay Leela Bhansali lost no time in giving his approval for the project and decided to produce it.

Omung Kumar will be making his debut as a director with this film.
