Daughter of renowned singer Asha Bhosle, Varsha Bhosle, committed suicide earlier today by shooting herself.
Varsha, who was at Asha Bhosle’s residence in the ‘Prabhu Kunj’ building in Peddar Road, shot herself in her head. It remains unclear where she obtained the gun from. But according to Times Now report there was a licensed gun at Asha Bhosle’s residence, which Varsha used to end her life.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead upon her arrival. Her body is to taken to the JJ Hospital in south Mumbai for a post mortem. Police haven’t commented whether there was any suicide note written by her.
Asha Bhosle was not at the residence at the time of the incident as she was in Singapore attending an event. Asha Bhosle’s sister and Varsha’s aunt, Lata Mangeshkar, who resides in the same building, was also reportedly not at home at the time of the incident.
Varsha Bhosle was daughter of Asha Bhosle from her first marriage to Ganpatrao Bhosle. She was 55.
Varsha, who was a journalist herself, married and divorced freelance sports writer Hemant Kenkre.
It’s reported that Varsha had a history of depression. According to reports Varsha had attempted suicide in 2008 by consuming sleeping pills, but had been rushed to hospital and was subsequently saved.
However, the family adamantly denied these reports and stated that it was due to an adverse reaction to medication she had taken.
However, it’s said that Varsha had been seeking psychiatric care for a significant portion of her adult life.
Varsha Bhosle, who also sung for a few movies, had written for a range of publications during her career as a journalist. For the past year she worked as a freelance journalist.
