In his next movie director Kunal Kohli is bringing together the famous ‘Kaminey’ couple Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in his next movie ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’.

The director feels that it’s high time that someone casts Shahid and Priyanka in a romantic movie.

“Priyanka hasn't done too many love stories, especially a film like 'Teri Meri Kahaani' which is an out and out romantic entertainer. I felt that it was about time we bring her and Shahid together in a quintessential musical love story like this,” he said to PTI.

The director, who got famous after immense success of ‘Hum Tum’, said that the movie ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ in spirit and heart follows the same romantic rendezvous that veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra is known for.

“Yashji's body of work is primarily love stories and he keeps coming back with even better ones time and again. I too feel that there are so many stories about love to be told and one lifetime is just not enough to do that,” he said.

“Just like Yashji, I too want to keep coming back with films belonging to this genre on a regular basis.’Teri Meri Kahaani' is just the next step in that direction,” he added.

The movie that showcases three different love stories in three different eras has been getting great response from the audience. Kunal Kohli said that the major portion of praises belong to Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra and their chemistry.

“Shahid is playing three different roles in the film across eras and that is something that he has never done before. He is playing a strong Muslim character Javed which is a first for him. Then he has never enacted a cool trendy character from the current era in a manner as shown in the film,” he said.

“Getting into a 60s mode is not something that many actors of today's generation can boast of. All of this brings uniqueness to the film because whenever Shahid has done something different, it has been grabbed by the audience with both hands,” he added.

Kunal Kohli hopes that Shahid Kapoor who has delivered hits with his romantic movies ‘Jab We Met’ and ‘Vivaah’ hopes that trend continues with ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’,

“Today's ever demanding audience wants something different from its actors all they time. They want Shahid to do different things and push the envelope. This was the demand of 'Teri Meri Kahaani' as well, as we are doing something altogether different in the film. That made me zero in on Shahid,” he said.

The movie is just a month away from its release and director Kunal Kohli has said that the movie will be nothing less than path breaking.

“This film is nothing like being made by anyone else before. This is the first time that a narrative like this has been adapted for a film. It is a path breaking film in all senses. It was very ambitious of me to attempt this but the results would show on screen,” he said.

“When I had said 'Hum Tum' was different, people didn't believe me till the time they actually saw it. It happens. I am now saying that 'Teri Meri Kahaani' is a new and fresh film if I am making that statement, I am prepared to hear audience feedback as well when they actually watch it,” he concluded.

The movie that also stars Neha Sharma and Prachi Desai is all set to release on June 22.
